In the summer of 2016, I traveled completely on my own for the very first time. Over the course of seven weeks, I wandered through Scandinavia exploring the Swedish heritage of my grandmother, made my way to Berlin by train, explored the stark beauty of Iceland and endeavored to discover a small piece of myself along the way (while doing my best to pronounce words like "Siglufjörður!").

The South Coast

Today was a beautiful day spent driving around the southern coast of Iceland (read: riding in a tour bus), with a visit to the memorable black sand beaches in the tiny village of Vik; population 200! Several times all 12 of us onboard insisted the driver pull over to the side of the road whenever the infamous Icelandic horses were spotted, which he eventually did so we could get up close and personal with these untamed beauties. Some are wild and some are part of private farms. Incredibly friendly when you come cookie in hand.
